How To Create a Spa-Like Bathroom

Designing your bathroom with spa elements and furnishings will create your own personal sanctuary of relaxation. It's no secret that spas are designed to be as comforting and relaxing as possible. After all, that's one of the main reasons why millions of people visit them each year. By designing your bathroom around similar elements, you'll experience this same high level of relaxation found in professional spas. If this is something you are interested in doing, keep reading to learn more about creating a spa-like bathroom.

Setting The Ambiance

The first step towards achieving a spa-like bathroom is to set the ambiance. Ever notice how you instantly feel relaxed after walking through the doors of a spa? This is the direct result of the soothing ambiance and atmospheric mood created by the decor.  The subtle elements used in the spa's design affect your mood by naturally relaxing and calming you. So, how are you supposed to achieve this same ambiance in your bathroom? Start by cleaning your bathroom up and removing any and all clutter. Unfortunately, you can't expect to have an authentic spa-inspired bathroom if it's dirty and full of clutter. Take a few minutes to go through and find a home for all of your toiletries and belongings.

Another important part of a spa ambiance is lighting. The wrong type of lighting will pull your bathroom far away from the ambiance found in a spa. When it comes to bathroom lighting, less is more. If you haven't done so already, install some form of supplemental lighting like track lighting or wall sconces to create a more relaxing, personal ambiance. Of course, you can still leave your overhead lighting installed for instances where you need a greater amount of illumination.

Shower Benches and Chairs

Adding something as simple as a shower bench or chair will also help to give your bathroom a more spa-like feel. Not many traditional bathrooms feature furnishings such as shower benches and chairs; therefore, you can set your bathroom apart from the traditional design by using some of these furnishings in your shower. Not only will they provide you a comfortable area to sit down and relax while taking a shower, but they will also add a stylish touch of sophistication to the decor. Just be sure to choose a material that's appropriate for the wet conditions found inside of a shower. Authentic teak wood is one such material that holds up well in wet and humid conditions.

  1. I must say I'm more of a shower person than bath tub person but this post has really helped me setting the calm and comforting mood for my bathroom to make it more relaxing. Thanks a lot.
