How To Clean Pollen Off Outdoor Furniture

The warm temperatures and colorful blooming flowers blanketing the landscape could only mean one thing - the spring season is officially here. Unfortunately, though, this is also a time when the high pollen counts of various flowers and trees leave a yellow coating on everything left outside. If you have outdoor patio furniture, chances are you've noticed the yellowish powder gathering on its surface. The good news, however, is that cleaning pollen off outdoor furniture is a quick and easy process that should only take a couple minutes of your time; here's how it's done:

Hose It Down

As long as your outdoor furniture isn't completely covered in pollen, you should be able to clean it simply by hosing it down with a garden hose. Take your furniture to an area where water isn't going to damage anything, bring over a garden hose, and thoroughly spray it down until all of the yellow pollen falls off. Depending on the severity of the situation, you may need to use a high-pressure nozzle to give the water some extra power. Either way, a fast-moving steam of water should make easy work of even the most stubborn pollen coatings.

You can also place a small amount of mild dish soap on your furniture to help wash away dirt during the process. After hosing it down, scrub the furniture down using a sponge and then rinse it one last time to wash away excess pollen and dirt.

When you are done hosing down the furniture, you may want to then move your attention towards the ground. Hosing off pollen from outdoor furniture will usually create a pool of yellow pollen water underneath; therefore, you'll need to hose this off to create an attractive patio environment.

Storing Outdoor Furniture

If you leave your clean outdoor furniture outside, pollen will inevitably coat it once again. So, how are you supposed to keep pollen from continuously covering your furniture? I recommend either bringing in the furniture that you and your family aren't using, or you can store it outside with a large tarp covering it. This will allow you to enjoy your outdoor furniture without having to worry about the pollen covering it.

Pollen is something we must deal with around this time each year. While some people choose to stay indoors to avoid it, others go about their day-to-day lives. Cleaning and removing pollen from your outdoor furniture will allow you to continue using your patio without getting covered in pollen. Just follow the instructions previously mentioned and you'll be well on your way to having pollen-free furniture.
